Energy-Saving Tips for Your Home this Fall
September 21, 2020There are several simple energy-saving (and money-saving) things you can do this fall to help you save on your energy bills.
Unseen Dirt is Costing You Money
Dirty air filters in your home’s HVAC system makes it work harder and use more energy. Your system’s filters might be in the duct system or in the equipment. Have a technician from Young’s Home Comfort inspect your system before winter to ensure your HVAC is in working order and all filters are clean or replaced to maximize efficiency.
Air filters should be changed every 3 months. Clean filters will help keep dust particles from accumulating in your home’s heating and cooling system, which can lead to expensive repairs or maintenance issues.
Autumn is a good time to wipe clean your ceiling fan blades so any of that dust is eliminated and not recirculated. Once fall temperatures begin to drop significantly, switch the direction of your ceiling fans so that they’re pushing warm air down for the winter.

Things You Need to Know About Oil Tank Safety
August 24, 2020If you use oil to heat your home in the winter, you probably don’t give much thought to the heating oil tank that stores the fuel. You especially aren’t thinking about it before temperatures really start to dip.
Yet it’s the perfect time to determine your oil tank safety and make sure your tank is in good condition.
We at Young’s Home Comfort think about oil tank safety year-round because our goal is to keep customers comfortable and safe. Air Conditioning Maintenance, Repairs, Installations & Air Safety
April 27, 2020Having a central cooling system for your home or office building is a worthy investment. Who doesn’t want to feel comfortable year-round? But without scheduled maintenance, your AC could unexpectedly fail during the hottest time of the year.
If you’re already sitting in comfort, having your air conditioning inspected might seem unnecessary. It’s probably not even something that comes to mind. Yet HVAC systems are complex. They get dirty and need lubricants. Plus, there’s a lot of different parts that need to work together.
Without proper maintenance, your AC may be functioning less efficiently, using more energy than the norm, and not able to maintain optimal temperatures. Stress on the system will shorten its lifespan.
While we’re always ready to provide emergency HVAC services, ideally your HVAC system runs efficiently and effectively without any costly surprises. The nominal cost of having your air conditioning unit inspected and tuned-up annually pales in comparison to an expensive AC repair from lack of air conditioner maintenance.
COVID-19 Notice
March 18, 2020 Like you, all of us at John R. Young & Company and our assorted divisions have seen our lives affected by COVID-19 and the Coronavirus. We wanted to take a moment to address our customers and vendors about what JRY is doing to help combat Coronavirus and keep you all and our employees safe during this difficult and frustrating time.
Doubtless, you have received and read several similar statements from other organizations that you’ve done business with. We, too, are following the guidelines put forth by the WHO and CDC to help curb the spread of COVID-19. We are reminding our employees about the importance of frequent and thorough hand washing, and increased disinfection and cleaning of our facilities and equipment. Our delivery drivers have been instructed to wear disposable gloves when handling product and making a delivery. We have implemented a policy encouraging all customers to pay via phone when possible. When and where possible, we are asking capable employees to work from home.
There has been some confusion about how safe, or not, it may be to handle packaging or receive a delivery. The WHO and CDC maintain that you are unlikely to contract the COVID-19 virus by handling a shipping container or cardboard. So long as it is prudent for us to do so, we will continue to make deliveries, both of packaged lubricant products and fuel oil and bulk oil products.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Young’s. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have or go into further detail about the measures we’re undertaking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

How To Tell How Much Oil is in Your Tank
January 24, 2020When you’re driving your car down the road, you generally keep an eye on the fuel gauge to make sure you won’t be left hanging on the side of the highway. The same attention should be paid to your home’s oil tank!
Waking up in the middle of the night to a freezing cold house is the home equivalent to running out of gas on the road – it’s incredibly inconvenient and potentially dangerous. Running out of oil can let your home’s temperature plummet, creating the risk of frozen or burst pipes in the walls.
